For parents and guardians
Fruit of the Spirit Treasure Hunt is a mobile game for 13 to 18 year olds, coming to Android and iPhone. Players explore a stylised, low-poly city neighbourhood looking for three hidden Gifts, fight monsters in a forest arena, and then answer a question about the fruit they're chasing before they can claim the treasure. There are nine levels, one for each fruit listed in Galatians 5.
Once the treasure is claimed it goes into a vault, and the last part of each level is defending that vault when the monsters come for it. Finishing all nine levels completes Season One. The game isn't in either app store yet.
What it asks of your teenager
Exploring and fighting make up the action. The enemies are monsters, made in the same low-poly style as the rest of the game.
The part that asks something different is the question after each fight. There are 56 of them across the nine fruits. Each one describes a situation a teenager is likely to recognise, such as a friend spreading a rumour about them, and offers several responses. The player has to pick the one that best shows the fruit for that level. If they choose a wrong one, they go back and fight the arena again. Every question has an explanation of why the best answer is the best one, written to teach rather than to scold.
This is the question from the Love level:
A friend spreads a rumour about you. Which response best demonstrates the fruit of love?
If you'd like to talk about the game with your teenager, the questions are a good place to start. You could read one out and ask which answer they would choose, and why.
The faith content
The game's content is Christian. Each level is built around one of the nine fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22โ23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The Gifts that players collect are drawn from a set of seven: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Courage, Knowledge, Reverence and Fear of the Lord.
The game doesn't lecture. The faith content comes through the questions and their explanations, and players don't need a religious background to follow them.
What it doesn't have
There are no accounts or logins, and there's no chat or any other way for players to contact each other. The game doesn't collect personal information. Our Privacy Policy has the details.
